Westfield residents share notes on weekend visits and summer plans. Free nightly movie screenings begin Tuesday June 15 and may run weekly. Families report travels to Kentucky Chicago and Sioux City plus church activities.
The grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Chas. Green of Westfield enlisted in the Navy on May 26 for four years. He was immediately transferred to the Navy Training Center in San Diego California to begin recruit training.
Southwest Plymouth reports Mrs Lackman and Edna Mae off to the west for two weeks visiting relatives. Harry Fymbo works nights at Sioux City stockyards after a temporary layoff due to cattle supply. Residents objected to parts of the enlarged Hinton school district. objections were dropped and lands eliminated. Bridges damaged by floods are being repaired by county crews. Contour farming reduced flood risk, but replanting occurred on fifteen acres. Telephone lines from Sioux City nearing completion with service to east area in about two weeks. Henry Rusk and Amos and Fred Ross will be served from the east. Norman Weber, polio survivor, to visit his family briefly after hospital care in Omaha.
The Union County Farmers Union will hold its regular meeting Friday June 11 at 8 00 p m in Sunnyside school house three miles south of Beresford on Hi Way 77 Prairie Local will entertain. All delegates and members are urged to attend.
Prairie Gold Scout Reservation near West Okoboji prepares for its largest season starting June 13 with over 1,800 reservations and nine full camp periods. This marks the fifth year at the camp site, first opened in 1950 after being purchased in winter 1949. Each attending Scout will be accompanied by a local leader who stays for the entire period. The 1954 camp objectives are outlined.
