Women Are Wise Uncle Henry Shows What Chance a Poor Man Has

Uncle Henry argues women are perceptive and humorous in a humorous monologue about a sailor who quits the navy for marriage after a rigid life at sea. He frames the contrast between a man’s craving for freedom and a woman’s strategic social wit as decisive in love and marriage. The piece uses comic phrases and dialect to critique gender roles and celebrate female savvy.
