Akron opened the season with a double victory over Alcester and later beat the Sioux City Cardinals. Beaubien, Arm Brown, Tucker and Jno. Martin led Akron's offense with timely hits and key runs. Pitching by Kapfer, Nitz, Zander, and Hartman held opponents in check as Akron posted strong fielding and smart base running throughout.
Merryman suffered a hit by pitch in a baseball matchup credited to Hartman and Essig. The game featured two base hits from Tucker Butcher DeMara Umpires R Mets and Lemen among others.
Akron to host Sioux City’s Kahoun Cafe next Sunday at 2 30 p m on the Akron grounds. Kahoun Cafe, finalists in last summer’s Sioux City Western League amateur tournament, aims to rebound after a 6 4 loss to Vermillion Red Sox. Akron, 2 0 start, seeks another home win as Manager Johnny Martin hustles the squad amid strong local support. Admission 10 and 26 cents.
Union Creek reports services at 8 pm Sunday and church meetings this week. Luther League hosts Tuesday at the Hall. Junior Mission Society meets Wednesday at 1 30 pm. Visits include Mrs Harker in Akron and Mrs Johnson in Ver million. A kitchen shower for the bride drew forty ladies and gifts from the community. Bertil Westin and son visited Eddie Anderson’s home. Mrs Anderson’s mother visited as well.
In Sioux City area residents attended a welcoming event at the Joe McMurray home for Miss Hannah Sellberg after church, arranged by neighbors and friends. Rev Edward spoke on the occasion, and a gift picture titled The End of a Perfect Day was presented as Wilma Ericsson sang the farewell piece. Several local families visited over the weekend.
Mr and Mrs C A Hamilton and other local families gathered at Herman Jacobs home in Inwood Iowa to honor Mrs Jacobs birthday during a Memorial Day reunion. Anna Lund and brothers Arthur and Oscar Lund visited relatives nearby while Clifford Johson and sons traveled from South Sioux City to join the holiday weekend. Hannah Sellberg Teckla Anderson went to Sioux City for a few days with friends. Ey Westin Esther Larson Maurene Larson and Elmer Johnson plus Mrs Wm Eriegon were among attendees from nearby areas.
I am and Mrs Elmer Hultgren called Monday evening at the home of Mrs Olof Ericson while Mr and Mrs Milton Evicson and their sons visited the Ralph Dewey home.
