Care in Curing Alfalfa For Better Hay Quality

F G Churchill from Town State college advises careful handling of alfalfa which makes up about 46 percent of the hay crop and contains around 48 percent protein. Cut while slightly green to retain leaves and color, usually in the morning after dew dries, or late afternoon to wilt overnight. Store in the mow with even spread to avoid air gaps, and do not open the mow during heating to prevent spontaneous combustion.
