Mrs. Dora Jarchow, 80, died from injuries after a July Fourth shooting while seated in her Davenport yard. Richard Zahrat is in custody charged with the shooting.

John Reed, 45, liveryman of Tabor, hanged himself in his jail cell while awaiting trial on charges of stealing a purse containing 24.60 from a circus employee in Tabor. The death occurred in the county jail here.

Wesley Green state horticulturist reports July crop growth in Iowa with overall horti culture products down 10 percent from June. Apples remain smooth and worm free while berries and vegetables fall 10 to 50 percent. apples peaches and grapes rise 1 to 2 percent. Weather blamed for berry and vegetable declines. Summary shows per cent of normal: summer apples 76, fall 72, winter 65. pears 31. plums 61 63 37. peaches 12. grapes 83. red raspberries 45. black raspberries 50. blackberries 65. currants 60. gooseberries 61.
A petition for a rehearing of the Winneshiek liquor cases was filed with Supreme Court clerk B W Garrett by Otto Drexel. The court will not sit until September 19, delaying a ruling on saloon consents and potential closures across Iowa if rehearing is denied.
