Big Sioux Golf Tourney Set For Akron Course August 1
Plans for the Big Sioux Invitation Golf Tournament at Akron course on August 1 progress. The 27 hole event includes a nine hole morning qualifying round and an 18 hole afternoon final. Morning play starts 9 am with scores due at noon. final begins at 2 pm. Prizes exceed $100 and include golf equipment for winners and runners up. A $5 cash prize will go to the first player breaking par. Par is 33 strokes. Calcutta Sweepstakes in the Championship flight is featured. Meals and refreshments will be available at the clubhouse for locals and visitors alike. Invitations have been mailed to surrounding towns and a sizable entry list is expected. Firemen Save Much Grain at Herbert Johnson Farm
Akron firemen rushed with a new motor truck to the Herbert Johnson farm ten miles southeast of town on Tuesday afternoon where two large straw stacks burned. They focused on saving a portable metal bin containing about 1,000 bushels of grain, which was overheating, pumping water from the truck tank and farm cistern. Their efforts saved Mr. Johnson a sizable grain loss. origin of the fire was not learned.
