Manuel Maloney, a longtime aeronaut with Prof. Montgomery, fell 8,000 feet near Santa Clara College in San Jose during a public ascent honoring the League of the Cross Cadets. The machine turned over multiple times at about 4,000 feet, trapping him. cadets carried him to hospital where his head injuries proved fatal. The wrecked aeroplane collapsed in the field.
New York burglars chloroformed a sleeping victim at Mrs. Bertha Cohen on Fifth Avenue and stole diamonds worth 1000 dollars. The victim awoke with lacerated ears, as two rings vanished from her left hand. Her mother heard the cries. a wardrobe fire was started but Fire Marshal De Milgion found no combustibles, indicating deliberate arson.

In Kentucky near Toe City three men died on Holly Creek on Saturday in a feud said to stem from a long standing grudge. Victims were Frank Smith sixty and his sons William twenty and Manfred twenty one. Scott McQuinn reportedly admitted the killings. The Smith brothers were returning from Wilhurst when trouble began near the McQuinn home along the county road. Frank Smith’s body was found beside his sons after the shooting.
In Birmingham on Saturday two masked highwaymen held up L. D. Burr paymaster of Sloss-Sheffield Steel and Iron between Littleton and Mat Top. They took 5000 dollars meant for payroll. Moments later Detective George Bodecker Policeman Joseph Nix and Flat Top guard Charles Pickard shot and killed one robber and recovered the money. the second robber escaped.
