Man Dies Attempting Barrel Descent of Niagara Falls
Charles G. Stephens of Bristol England died attempting to ride over Horseshoe Falls in a Russian oak barrel. The smashed cask was found near the Canadian bank, but his body had not surfaced. Stephens, 58, barber, left a wife and eleven children, and had served in France with the British army. He was the third to try the feat, following Annie Edson Taylor in 1901 and Bobby Leach in 1911.
