Akron Fourth of July Celebration Draws Crowd and Fireworks
A large crowd enjoyed July Fourth festivities in Akron with events at the Commercial Club and Ak- In Jayenes. The Abu Ki Shrine Motorcycle Patrol performed, followed by free rides for youngsters. About five hundred meals were served at the inn Hall. Westfield defeated Ak atigh 19 in a seven inning baseball game with Brundeen homering and Port adding a lift double. Akron Town beat Menomonie 6 to 5 in a close second game. The day closed with a giant fireworks display that drew many spectators, aided by favorable weather from a local forecaster.

Area 1-H Dairy Showing At Sioux City July 16
Plans are set for a Sioux City area 4-H dairy showing and demonstration at the Saxe County Fairgrounds on Tuesday July 16 starting at 10:00. The event, conducted by former dairy project leader Glan Smith, runs two hours and gathers 4-H dairy titers and leaders from seven counties. The showcase at the fairgrounds south of Highway 20 will be held at the new grandstand, with Plymouth County unity members invited to attend.

Akron High School fell to Westfield 11 to 9 at Akron’s 4th of July celebration and then lost 7 to 2 to Rock Valley in Lionsland Conference action. Rock Valley hitters Lonnie Schnehard and Merlyn Hall combined for nine hits as Akron managed four. Akron led 2 to 1 after four innings before Rock Valley tallied two in the fifth and four in the sixth, then shut Akron down the rest of the game. Central Lyon High visits Friday for a scheduled matchup.

1969 Wheat Program Provisions Announced
Major provisions of the 1969 wheat program differ from 1968 with a smaller national allotment and payments for diverting acres below the allotment. Akron Town Team Wins Two Of Three Ball Games
The Akron town baseball team won two of three games last week, beating Centerville and Menomonie before losing to Vermillion. Jack Borchers shut out the Dakotans 8 to 0 with a five hit performance and ten strikeouts. Fritz Murrell and Ken Milbredt aided Akron at the plate. Akron edged Menomonie 6 to 5 with a homer by Borchers and a bases loaded single by Hank Krause. Vermillion defeated Akron 7 to 1 as Hughes held Akron to five hits while Vermillion pitchers allowed nine Akron blows. Akron hosts Yankton Thursday and then travels to Crofton Sunday.
