South Dakota Iowa boundary bill affects 53 students at school
A recently introduced House bill in the South Dakota legislature would curb cross state student enrollment between South Dakota and Iowa. It stems from West Sioux Iowa’s halt on new Hudson South Dakota enrollments. The measure would let South Dakotans study in Iowa only if Iowans face no restriction on South Dakota attendance. Westfield Leads Fourth War Bond Drive in First District
Twenty years ago Westfield town topped the Fourth War Bond drive in the First district. Postmaster J C Kennedy reported Akron post office sold 1948 stamps and stamped paper totaling 10 857 30, the best year on record, surpassing 1947 by over 1 000. Four decades back Akron residents enjoyed a two part winter concert under M V Santos. Local newlyweds Lee Sloutenburg received a reception. Akron Implement Co. burned with loss around 5000. Fire blamed on faulty wiring. Akron teams carried losses in Sioux City hockey, while several marriages and births were noted along with a child's death from measles.
