Union County Agent Harmon Boyd notes hogs can profit by following cattle in a feed lot when cattle receive a full grain ration of corn or barley. Studies show the average pig following 1.9 head of steers gains the equivalent of 312 pounds of corn during an average feeding period.

Local Army Sgt Heyl completes course in Germany

Army Sgt George E Heyl of Akron Iowa has finished the Western Area Command troop information course in Kaiserslautern Germany. The 32 year old son of Mrs Wilma Heyl serves as a reenlistment and troop information education NCO in Battery D 5th Missile Battalion in Germany. He enlisted in 1945 and arrived in Europe in March 1966. his wife Anna accompanies him. Also Pvt Jimmy L Crow, son of Mrs Lillian Crow, reports he reached his destination January 9 aboard the USS Gen E D Patrick with stops in Japan Okinawa and Formosa and asks readers to mail correspondence to him at the posted APO address.
