A fire in Chicago Tuesday burned about a half million dollars in property. The eight story building housing M. A. Donohue & Co publishers on 407 429 Denabe pn street sustained heavy damage. The blaze disrupted nearby stock market quotes and several local businesses reported losses, with notes of butcher and hog prices nearby.

Rent Clash Follows White River Utes Powwow

President Roosevelt met Monday with White River Ute Indians upset over Uintah allotments and land opens in Utah. Train wreck near El Paso kills five on Rock Island line

A Rock Island passenger train from El Paso to Chicago crashed into an open switch at Barney New Mexico early Sunday. Five people died and eight were injured, including engineer Almo Gordo and fireman BH Redfield. The wreck threw the engine and cars off the track. passengers included Arabs and Mexicans, with no additional deaths among the injured. Fog causes Wabash wreck in dense Chicago fog

Seven people injured early Monday when a train on the Monon railroad collided with a sleeper on the rear of the Wabash line near One Hundred and Twelfth Street in Chicago. The crash was blamed on the crew’s inability to see signals in thick fog. A headless, armless body found in the East River, later identified as a dredge-recovered corpse, added to the grim scene as investigators worked. Elsewhere, Mexican Revolutionists Juan Sarabit and others on trial in Juarez were convicted and sentenced to imprisonment, with no death sentences handed down.

West Virginia landslide blocks Wabash line at bridge

Early Sunday a massive slip on the Wabash railroad on the West Virginia side of the Ohio river near Mingo Junction caused the main line to be out of commission for days. A westbound freight led by Engineer Charles McCabe passed onto the bridge as the earth collapsed. the caboose and six freight cars were destroyed in the landslide as trains rerouted via alternate lines.

Two Women Hurt During Fire at Cross Farm Residence

During the blaze at the Cross farm residence near Cambridge two women were badly injured. Mrs Cross sustained severe burns to the head and shoulders while trying to save property.
