Funeral services were held Tuesday for Harry Shaw 88 at Schroeder Funeral Home. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery. He died Saturday after a long illness at Kingsley Nursing Home. Born July 28, 1882 in Kent Washington, he married Mary David in July 1902 at Fremont Nebraska. No survivors.
Patricia Hangen 27 and Kathryn Wilbeck 23, both of Akron, were injured when a two car crash on Gordon drive in Sioux City Sunday afternoon led to the arrest of Cleve W. Wynn 23 for leaving the scene of a personal injury crash and failure to stop. Stanley C. Hansen 27, Sioux City, was also involved as his car was stopped in traffic. Wynn fled the scene after the collision and the wrecked vehicle was registered to Wynn. The injured victims planned to seek medical care. Coronary artery disease notice appears in the report.

In response to President Nixon, Boy Scouts of America will launch Project SOAR in 1971. Local committee chairman Paul Beck announced the initiative during Boy Scout Week February 7–13, involving Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Explorer units in litter cleanup, planting, pollution census and conservation education across Dakota County Nebraska and Woodbury Monona County Iowa. The effort aims to deepen environmental awareness for current and future generations, with about 4,000 Scouts and hundreds of leaders contributing. Local Ikes chapter funded $1,000 toward SOAR, and its president Grant Holman praised the project and called for wider community involvement through the Izaak Walton League.

Dr. Roy F. Goddard of the University of New Mexico Medical School estimates seven of ten children with chronic asthma have pre emphysema, with two to three cases reaching full emphysema. Emphysema damages lung sacs, trapping air and hindering breathing, while pre emphysema is potentially reversible with early treatment. Physicians should perform periodic pulmonary function studies on affected children.
The State Hygienic Laboratory at The University of Iowa provides Water Sampling Kits with sterile bottles forms and labels, plus a slide presentation on proper sampling procedures for farm groups. Five slide sets are available. bacterial tests cost 2 dollars with optional 2 dollar tests for nitrates iron and hardness, and about 10 000 to 15 000 private samples are tested annually.
