Bethesda center renamed and New Year closure rules stated
Bethesda Children's home has been changed to a Lutheran Social Services Center for Youth Development. Woodfield center was chosen for the Beresford facility. The change was approved at an LSS meeting in Sioux Falls on December 14. Towns like Remsen questioned private gatherings in taverns on New Year's Eve, but officials ruled liquor licenses required for public places and Sunday closures barred open taverns. A large crowd attended a free pancake feed by the Hudson Community Club. Harmony Home's Tree of Lights fund in Orange City reached 701.78 dollars. A 12-year-old Doon boy, John Juffer, suffered a serious facial cut in a snowmobile mishap between Doon and Rock Rapids. West Lyon seniors were invited to Des Moines for the inaugural events on January 11. Alcester stores will close at 6 pm Saturdays in winter. Sioux Center added 26 new homes plus four multi family units in 1972, valued at about 1,000,640 dollars. Plymouth County’s first 1973-born babies will get gifts from Le Mars merchants. Robert F. Karolevitz will speak at the Hawarden Chamber banquet on January 8. Two rural water legislation items may be considered by the 1973 SD Legislature per F F Kerr, SDSU extension specialist. SD license plates in 1978 will be reflectorized white with red numerals and Mount Rushmore decals.

New Year at the Nursing Home Bright Observed
Residents marked New Year with place mats and a ham dinner while watching the Orange Botyl and Rose Bowl parades. Visitors from nearby towns joined residents including Laura Jurgensen and Hattie Bultman with many neighbors sending best wishes and thanks for prayers and gifts.
