Akron Wedding Bells for Aloysius Thorhas and Miss Maxine Byrnes

The wedding took place at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron at 8 o clock Thursday morning December 28. Rev Father Chas Ernst officiated. Relatives and friends attended as Mia Weidenfeller and Lambert Thomas stood as attendants. The bride wore rose with light aqua and green, a three course breakfast followed for twenty five guests, and a three tier cake was centerpiece with Christmas decor. The couple will honeymoon near Sioux Falls then reside on a farm southeast of Akron after March first. Relatives from Brookings and Elkton attended.

Postoffice Force Dines at Pantry Lunch

Postmaster A J Claeys hosted a steak dinner last Thursday for postoffice staff including his son Robert J C Kennedy Rural Carriers Frank Burke Arvel Lake Clair McCorkell and Vern Swift It was a enjoyable event for all concerned The local office posted its busiest Christmas season yet handling over 18000 outgoing cards plus numerous gift packages and other mail during the season.

Sealing of Corn Making Progress in Le Mars Office

The soil conservation office in Le Mars handles about one hundred corn loans completed locally with moisture tests and processing. The committee expects total corn sealed this year near 1,700,000 bushels, similar to last year, amid more corn grown but more stock feeding and less marketable corn. Plymouth county participates. nearly 2,300 farmers are eligible, average seal around 1,000 bushels, and sealing likely continues two more months. Parity payments arrive, 186 checks worth 31,599.85, plus ten wheat parity payments 144.26.

An December meeting at Mrs Elmer Philips home united Johnson and Preston township ladies with Miss Rathke to discuss Home Furnishing project. They covered built in features lacking, reconditioning furnishings, floor coverings and care tips. Several helpful home comfort topics were raised and two songs were sung during the music period.

Westfield Shows Strong Red Cross Drive in 26 Percent Rise

Westfield community reports a 26 percent increase in Red Cross memberships and 61 members with 31 contributors. Co chairs Mrs Dorothy Sanford and Mrs Keith Knapp led canvassing in Sioux township. total funds raised amount to $73.25 with extensive participation from local residents and contributors across the area.

Bequest of 75000 For a Hospital at Kingsley

A bequest from the Geo E Loring estate grants Kingsley 75000 for a modern community hospital. The town must provide land equal to one city block and build the hospital within two years, named the George E. Loring Hospital. Loring lived in Plymouth County since 1887 and worked with M A Moore in Kingsley before moving to Sioux City and later California, where he died last November 18. Methodist Church Notes Weekly Prayer and Union Services

The mid week prayer at the parsonage is set for Thursday at 7 30 PM. Union services will be held for four nights starting Tuesday at the Christian church and continuing Wednesday at the Methodist church Thursday at the Baptist church and Friday at Immanuel Lutheran church. Each service begins at 8 PM. The first church year quarter ends and a new Honor Roll will be displayed Sunday morning. The Utile Duke meets Tuesday evening with Mrs Brunner. The County School of Religious Education offers five courses starting next Monday at the LeMars Methodist church. Courses include The Old Testament Its Contents and Values The Church Through the Centuries The Childs Approach to Religion Understanding Ourselves Guidance in Christian Home Making. Death summons former Akron man last Thursday

A. E. Peters, a longtime Akron resident who later lived near Stratham New Hampshire, died December 28 1839 in Exeter New Hampshire hospital from a blood clot after injuries from a fall. He was 70. Peters married Daisy Kennedy of Akron Iowa in 1892 and had roles at Akron Savings Bank and local stores. He leaves Daisy Melvin Peters an adopted son and sister Emma. Known as Gus Peters he was a jovial devoted husband and father with many friends. Sympathy extends to the family.

Gasoline Water Contamination Warns Merrill Residents

Mayor E L Wilson and Health Officer Dr T G Knox warn Merrill residents not to drink city water after tests show gasoline contaminating the well. A leak at Norton Garage likely allowed gasoline to seep into the supply, making water unsafe until repaired. The report also notes a Christmas party hosted by Mrs Alfred Kjose and a lunch served.

Mrs John Lindberg Called by Death in Sioux Valley

Mrs. John Lindberg of Sioux Valley township Union county South Dakota died Sunday December 31 1939 at 8 p m at the home of her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Adolph Wiberg northwest of town after a two year illness aged 71 years 10 months and 3 days She is survived by her husband John Lindberg and one daughter The obituary will be continued next week Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Big Springs Baptist church.
