Young People Hurt In Accident On Military Road
Two youths and a railroad engineer were involved when a car skidded on an icy stretch on Military Road near Sioux City. Florence Anderson suffered a fractured hip and head injuries, Leonard Dirks had a gash over an eye, and the other driver, Mr Lynsher, received minor cuts. The local car occupants Fred Claesson Lyle Jacobs Lois Anderson and Helen Anderson escaped serious harm. Florence Anderson remained in Methodist Hospital for five to six weeks.

Death of Milt W Haviland at 62 in Jefferson S D
Milton W Haviland aged 62 of Jefferson South Dakota died Sunday evening in a Sioux City hospital. A former Jefferson school teacher he also managed the Jefferson Civil Bend Telephone company and the Jefferson division of the South Dakota Public Service. Survived by widow Kathryn and son Vincent, both of Jefferson, he was born June 17 1872 in Elgin Illinois and lived in Le Mars and Akron before moving to Jefferson. Funeral services were held at St Peters Catholic Church in Jefferson.

Last Rites for James Kain at St Josephs Church
Final rites were held Friday at St Josephs Catholic Church Bisendale for James T Kain 21 who was fatally shot while attempting to rob Mike's Tavern at Craig Christmas morning. He was rushed to Sacred Heart hospital LeMars where he died at 6 15 Christmas afternoon. Interment followed in Ellendale cemetery He was born July 22 1913 in Johnson township near Adaville and lived most of his life in Plymouth county. He worked at Sachse garage in Sioux City prior to death. Mr and Mrs Ted Cummins from western Nebraska visited his parents southeast of town and other relatives. Ted runs a restaurant business in Nebraska.

Local youth gets five year term in reformatory
Orville Attrill twenty five and Lloyd Attrill twenty one of Akron faced district court on Christmas morning robbery charges. Orville confessed and received five years in the Anamosa reformatory. Lloyd’s case was continued for more investigation. Rodgeres, injured in the escape, awaits arraignment. he is identified as Russell Moore and has a desertion past. The Attrill brothers are sons of Ernest Attrill. Rodgers/Moore lived in a river shack near Akron and worked for farmers. Sheriff Rippey confirmed a full confession from Rodgers and planned sentencing when he leaves the hospital.

Johnson was called to Storm Lake Iowa on New Year s day by a serious accident that befell his daughter Mrs H E Larsen the evening before Mr and Mrs Larsen and daughter Bernice were driving to Sioux City for the holidays when their car on Aton road near Holstein Ta was struck by another vehicle and sent into a ditch Mrs Larsen sustained injuries including a fractured shoulder and possible internal injuries she was taken to the Storm Lake hospital where she was unconscious for hours Friends hope for a speedy recovery

Plymouth county will send twelve more youths to CCC camps this week. County officials say the county is entitled to an additional quota because an equal number of local boys have completed a year in camp and are discharged. Heart Attack Fatal for Rex Pollock at 46
Rex Pollock, 46, died at his home this Thursday morning after a sudden heart attack. He fell ill about two hours before he passed and received medical care but did not recover. Pollock had worked the previous day at the Tundgren filling station and appeared in good health. Deathes in LeMars Claim Two Prominent Local Figures
The LeMars community mourns two deaths within a week. John G. Lubben, prominent LeMars businessman, died on Christmas Day after a long illness. His father, Philip Lubben, 73, a respected Plymouth county farmer and stock raiser, passed away Monday after a lingering internal illness. Philip was born in Germany, came to America as a youth, and lived and worked in Jones county before settling in LeMars. He leaves a widow, two sons George and Henry, and four daughters. John Lubben had been ill since January 1934, spending time in veterans’ hospitals before returning to LeMars. He leaves a wife and noted participation in local business. Both services conducted in LeMars churches with local pastors officiating.

The Akron Alumni Association held its annual Holiday Party at the Legion Hall last week with a large turnout.
