Westfield Community School Board of Education held a regular meeting February 1966 at 7 30 PM with all members present. Minutes and bills approved. Old business covered furnace ignition system and bus loading distance to meet state requirements. Board approved applying for 1000 from NEA for equipment and for new office practice books. Peace Corps recruitment drives in Iowa kick off February
Iowa Governor Harold Hughes proclaims February as Peace Corps Month in Iowa. The effort, led by the Iowa State Manpower Development Council with Extension Service and Vocational Agriculture support, runs through February and to March 15. Wind and snow sweep through the third week of February causing blocked highways and rail lines. Akron’s first married couple A G A Palm marked their 64th wedding anniversary on February 18 1936 at their daughter’s home in Sioux City. Mrs Arthur Lamoureux 60 died February 20 1985 at her son in law and daughter James Redmond home from a heart attack. Her husband and eleven children survive. Funeral services at St Patricks Catholic church and burial at Salix Iowa their former home H V Jordan 82 died February 14 1936. Surviving were his wife Emma two sons two daughters five grandchildren nine great grandchildren and one sister. Funeral services at Swanson funeral home and burial. Birth announcements include a daughter to Jay Billings February 14 1986 a son to Hayes Barr February 15 1936 and a daughter to John Tammen February 20 1936. F J Boden opened a Sweet Shop and Luncheonette in the former Corner Cafe building.
