President Johnson Plans Major Postal Rate Increase

President Johnson will ask Congress before February ends for a 700 million dollar annual postal rate rise. First class and air mail would gain one penny on July 0 1967 with second and third class rising in steps from January 1 1963. The Budget for fiscal 1968 shows the 700 million shift to the income side, easing a grim deficit but signaling a historic rate measure.

Farm Income, Food Price Situation Outlined

Secretary of Agriculture Orville L Freeman outlined that the share of disposable income spent on food by consumers has fallen from 26.7 percent in 1947 to about 18.2 percent today while farmers receive about 5.5 percent of disposable consumer income for their food, down from 11 percent in 1947. He warned of ongoing cost-price squeezes and said the Agriculture Department will use a broad set of measures to support farm prices and income in 1967. The statement followed a Washington briefing with farm leaders and agricultural representatives. The text then shifts to recall WW II actions by National Guardsmen from seven states in the 192d and 194th Tank Battalions on Luzon in 1941-42.

Town Council Proceedings Feb 7 1967 Akron meeting

Regular town council session opened February 7 1967 at 8 pm with Mayor Pro Tem Clarence Hummel presiding. Absent were William Philips and Mayor Vinton G Adams.
