A South Akron editor notes a new printing machine is now operating faster but caused initial chaos. Dust caused losses of 400 lines, prompting cleanup and a redesigned, colorful work area. The old press will be sold, freeing storage as Akron plans for the bi centennial. Police fines and accidents may be printed with department support.
Akron Register-Tribune lists local events for February including Chicken Little, Commercial club at Golf club house, Immanuel Lutheran Bible study, Adaville United Methodist Women meeting, Christian Women Fellowship, Embroidery Club, Hospital Auxiliary, First Baptist Mary circle, Book and Thimble club, Wesley United Methodist Women Love and Hope circles, and TOPS meetings in Akron Iowa.
Tickets are on sale for the Leap Year dance to be held Saturday February 28 at the Akron Golf club house. Music by the Country Jesters from 8 to 1 with a late lunch after. Tickets 250 in advance 3.00 at door. committees listed and meetings scheduled including February 18 and 22.
Le Mars artist Gerald Swigger, in residence at Westmar College, opened a figurative painting and drawing show Sunday February 15 in the Weidler gallery on the Le Mars campus. Swigger is known for his figurative works across painting and drawing.
Cub Scouts Webelos and their parents are invited to a Blue and Gold dinner on Tuesday February 24 at the Akron Legion hall. A 6:30 PM potluck dinner with hot dish salad and dessert is requested, table service provided. Coffee and drinks will be furnished. Pinewood derby races start at 7:30 PM with parent participation urged.
Chatsworth News recounts visits and gatherings across households including Mrs. Henry Collmann hosting Colin Collmann and family, Mrs. G. Moller staying with Ken Johnson in Omaha, and grandchildren returning home. Attendees include Camilla Johnson, Evan Harris, A. DeRaad, the Dowling anniversary group, and numerous neighborhood visits, meals, and baptisms noted across Le Mars and Hawarden areas.
The Un-Breakfast will be presented to homemakers February 24th and 26th with sessions at Elk Point and Vermillion and a fourth county exchange program led by Lois Duxbury. Club leaders will share details at March meetings.
Marlin D. Hillrichs of Akron has been named manager of the beef department at the Swift Fresh Meats Co. plant in Grand Island Nebraska. A graduate of Akron high school and Morningside College Sioux City he began with Swift in 1951 and has worked in Sioux City Yakima and Dumas. He is the son of Mrs Alma Hillrichs of Akron.
L. J. Mettler and E. W. Covey announce retirement from their Knoxville gas station business after a 43 year partnership. Mrs. Violet McInnis attended the funeral of her sister in law Violet Jones, held in Hinton last Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs Eldon Seely of rural Akron announce the engagement of their daughter Marsha Ellen Seely to Roger McGraw son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth McGraw of Sioux City. Marsha a Akron Community high school graduate and Postal Finance clerk in Sioux City. Roger a Woodbury Central and Wayne State College graduate working as a bookkeeper at E L Graham Brake. No wedding date set.
The Alcester high school auditorium hosts an American issues forum on adult education and town life this Monday evening February 23. Special speakers include professors Mary Weinkopf Wakotah Wesleyan University Marilyn Hill Huron college John Day Mount Marty college and Lowell Rost Northern State college. Sponsored by the South Dakota committee on the humanities under the National Endowment for the Humanities. The local community urges participation from Alcester and surrounding areas.

A long list of visitors calls and social events at the nursing home includes Marge Kreykes of Sheldon baking treats for guests, families from Sioux City Akron Le Mars and Remsen stopping by, and group activities such as singing, bingo, and Valentine celebrations hosted by local clubs and volunteers.
The Scattered 4-H club met February 2 at Ingrid Hedeby’s home with eight members. No new business. old business urged the February 15 bowling party. Julie and Ingrid spoke on baking. Mary discussed arts and crafts. Next meeting is March 8 at Jane and Mary Andresen’s home. Lunch by Mrs. Hedeby.
Akron TOPS 893 met Wednesday evening February 11 with nine members present. Secretary and treasurer reports were read and approved. The adult best loser lost two pounds. Visitors night is set for February 18 at 7 30 p m at Mrs Le Roy Carlsons home 501 Reed St. All are welcome. TOPS tip notes watch your middle and avoid high calorie temptations as you pursue goals.
Mid Sioux advisory board met to discuss fundraising for upcoming camps for disabled youths. A five day session is planned for Plymouth county in mid June, followed by a four day overnight camp for youths from Cherokee Ida Lyon Plymouth and Sioux counties in August. Bill Peshek chairs the board with Phyllis Sanow as secretary. A meeting is set for March 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mid Sioux Opportunity office in Remsen.
Plymouth county extension director Lyle Mackey announces a February 26 program from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the extension service meeting room. ISU speakers Dr. Harvey Thompson and Dr. Robert Nyvall will discuss foliar fertilization and soybean diseases as part of an in depth look at current tech to boost yields. Area farmers and agri businesses are urged to attend this important meeting.
Mrs Gary Moller served as a Test caller in R D Clark home for Ws Mrs Eldon Smith who is recovering from surgery. Guests included Gene Koch Kenny Sieg of Sioux Falls SD and Dany Frisk Alan of Hoffman Estate Ill. Dinners at Alvin Frig and John Frisk homes with several visitors. Alan Frisk and Daryl Frisk planned trips to Sioux Falls for medical visits. Frisk family and Kathy and Doug attended.
Members meet at Mary Andersons home for a pot-luck luncheon and patriotic program. Arley Philips reads a convention letter, three volunteers to display pioneer items, and next meeting planned. Valentine plates to be prepared at Ina's, film program on Gay 90s and Washington.
The Liberty-Johnson Farm Bureau Homemakers met at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday February 10 at Mrs Elmer Browns. Eight members and a guest attended resin discussing their first Farm Bureau meeting memories. Reports covered commodities safety music and education with a film on suffocation hazards in flowing grain. The group voted to support Iowa Boys Home in Le Mars as the township project. The next meeting is March 9 at Lois Newbergs home with a lesson on which commodity is your greatest income.
The Republican women of Plymouth county will hold an organizational coffee on Thursday February 26 at 9 30 a m at the home of Mrs Chuck Wood 830 West Valley Drive Le Mars Guests include district president Mrs Floyd Pollard Fort Dodge and Mrs HJ Minglin Auburn.
