The 4972 Wrestling Sectionals were held at Rock Valley February 7 and 8. Akron placed third with 48 points as Marcus won the tourney and Meridan Cleghorns finished second. Art Coon won the Raiders only title in the 138 lb class after defeating three opponents. Gordon Baum and Joe Burdette also advance to Districts in heavyweight and 105 lb classes respectively. Districts are February 18 and 19 at Albert City. Three other Raiders finished third: Dale Manley at 132 lb Bill Harvey at 145 lb and Kenny Searls at 167 lb. Congratulations to all wrestlers and good luck at Districts and State.
Akron High's boys travel to face undefeated Boyden Hull in Siouxland clash while the Dutchmen and Red Raiders chase the conference crown. Akron boys lost 75 53 at Orange City and the girls finished 2 1 against Heelan, with Colleen McGuire netting 33 for Heelan and Diane Eskra 27 for Akron. The Raiderettes then fell 88 51 to West Monona as Akron wound up the season with four wins and nine losses. Diane Bakra led Akron with 30 points in the final game.
