The Home Culture Club met at Kathy Clauson s home on February 5 with thirteen members. Meriele Wilmot reviewed Nunaga by Duncan Pryde. Luncheon followed. The Rural Home Culture Club gathered at Beth Finzen s home for a pot luck lunch with eleven members. Beth read a daily prayer and roll call with each member sharing a current event. Ramona Weenink showed a sample name tag for the convention. The convention skit committee includes Mary Anderson, Maxine Gerrietts, and Ramona Weenink. The nominating committee comprises Mary Anderson, Frances Witt, and Margaret Adams. The club will provide cookies for the coffee hour after the convention and members will make Easter favors for a nursing home. Members plan to meet February 11 at 9 30 at Loisa Klemme s home to pack plates for shut ins. Ina Young presented In Defense of Women.

Chuck Young of Akron captured an ice clad beard on Harlan Shank of North Park Illinois while skiing on the Rock River in Rockford on New Year’s Day. The Post photographer’s image was accepted by United Press International and appeared in papers from Okinawa to across the United States. Chuck is the son of Mr and Mrs Walter Young of Akron.

Open house for 85th birthday in Le Mars
Mr. Fred J. Gronemeyer observes his 85th birthday with an open house at St. John's Lutheran church youth room in Le Mars on Sunday February 17 from 2 to 4 pm. Hosted by his children Lyle Mrs Loris Gabel Mrs Rudy Velma Dreckman Mrs Francis Velgene Hazel and Wendall of rural Ireton to join his 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Born February 19 1889 in Preston township he lived on the family farm until moving to Le Mars in 1952. He is the oldest of six living children George William Art and Mrs Caroline Barker of Le Mars and John of Cherokee. He married Caroline Marienau at Ireton December 18 1912. Mrs Gronemeyer died in 1957. he has since lived in his own home. He worked as a carpenter and in recent years maintains a basement workshop repairing refinishing and making furniture.Friends and relatives in the Akron area are invited.
