A call to residents to back locally owned businesses, urging broad participation and steady patronage to sustain diverse shops and services within the community. The appeal highlights the importance of supporting entrepreneurs who contribute to the local economy and neighborhood character.
Chatsworth area residents report visits from Fairview Hawarden and Omaha. Virgil McKee, Leona Ludwigs, Lester Ludwigs, Henry Ludwigs, and other relatives hosted, with coffee gatherings and birthday celebrations noted. A baby girl Amy Marie was born to Gary and Mrs Moehlmann in Cherokee with Violet Moehlmann visiting.
The Plymouth county extension service hosts the annual crop production meeting at the K.C. Hall in Le Mars on Tuesday February 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The public is invited and sponsors include Le Mars Savings Bank and Meis Seed and Feed. No charge for materials or noon lunch.
Mrs. Ron Trudo and guests dine with George Bern family while Mrs. Eldora Merrill visits from Sioux City. Al Hawks joins GW grocery in Akron, Gary and the Berns host visitors, and Westfield boys open sectional basketball vs Akron on February 24 at Hinton at 7 30 p m. Marriage is an old institution held together by two books Cook and bank. Happy Valentine Day.
A benefit supper offering chili or chicken soup, relishes, dessert and a drink will occur February 19 from 5 to 8 30 p m at Westfield Community School. Pre sale tickets are 1.25 for adults and 0 75 for children under 12, with door prices of 1.50 for adults and 1.00 for children. Lions Club and the boys basketball team sponsor the event.
Mr and Mrs Richard Hummel of Westfield welcome a daughter born February 7 at St Luke s Hospital Sioux City.
Westmar academic dean Courter announced 203 students were honored for the semester. Akron names on the dean’s honor roll include Debrah Burdette and Richard L. Dowling, both seniors with majors in psychology, sociology, and religion.
Akron Golf club members host a potluck supper and card games on Sunday February 23 at 6 30 p m. Kitchen committee members are Elaine Michael Oma Gassman Ethel Dirks and Marge Lucken. Card game committees include Jerry Celia Mary Smith and Ed Dirks. Pinochle 500 and Bridge featured.
Mr and Mrs Fred Larson stayed with the Ray Davidson home in Eagle Grove IA and returned last Thursday. Rev Ritzhaupt came back from Bloomfield IA on Tuesday. Gilmore City and Ft Dodge couples joined Sunday services at the First Baptist church and visited Rev and Mrs Ritzhaupt. Mr and Mrs William Bohlen returned from an extended trip visiting Rev Wilbur Foote in Atlanta GA and attended Youth For Christ events in Orlando Florida including Disney World Everglades and Key West. They later saw Kansas City friends in Hazelhurst MS and thanked the Akron Register editor for sending the home paper. Charles Bernard Tehran Iran and Mrs Flora Bernard of Jefferson SD visited Aunt Mrs B A Adams in Akron on Monday.
Mr and Mrs Henry Frerichs of Akron will celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary on February 15. Married in 1911 in Preston township Plymouth county they farmed east of Akron 48 years before moving to Akron in 1959. They have four sons Alvin Hawarden Henry Jr Maurice Marvin and Arnold of Sioux City plus a late son William. They also have 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A Pattern Alteration Workshop is set for February 19 from 1 30 p m at the Extension office meeting room. Sus an Merkley Plymouth county extension home economist says enrollment is limited and pre registration is urged before February 15 at the Plymouth county extension office.
Mrs. Martha Clark of Perry recently celebrated her 103rd birthday and remains active, walking easily with only a cane for support.
Akron couple Darwin and Darlene Johnson celebrate 25 years of marriage with an open house on Sunday February 23 from 2 to 5 PM at their home. A program is planned at 3 PM. The couple married February 25 1950. Hosted by their three children and families Gerald Johnson Gordon Heath Shannon Jay Miller Erin Lynn Arla Rae Tapper and Raymond Tapper announce the engagement of Arla Rae to Joe Anthony of LaVerne Iowa with a May 24 wedding planned at St John’s Lutheran church rural Akron both are students at Iowa Lakes Community College Estherville Iowa.
Boni Johnson of Akron was elected president of SDSU Kappa Delta as 20 coeds were initiated into the national social sorority in ceremonies February 1. New officers include Lynn Simpson Madison vice president Pam Edegard Sioux Falls secretary Jan Olson Brookings treasurer Carol Pahlke Valentine recorder Vicky Thormodsgaard Alcester rush chairman Paula McKee Hawarden assistant rush chairman Rhonda Kleinhans Hawarden was also initiated. The sorority emphasizes scholarship and campus community service with projects at Brookview Manor nursing home. colonized at SDSU in February 1974. Nationally Kappa Delta has 155 chapters, 388 alumni associations, 77,000 members and supports Aid to Crippled Children.
Twenty SDSU coed officers join Kappa Delta in Feb 1 ceremonies. National and campus dignitaries attended the installation, with Boni Johnson Pam Odegard Mrs Kenneth Gallagher Jaynee Orange among those identified.
A Thursday evening workshop run February 13 to March 13 at Floyd Valley Hospital meeting room aids couples in improving marital health. Led by Howard and Emogene Marty, the program emphasizes communication, conflict, roles, and sex in marriage using various educational tools.
