Deadline March 1 for new wheat allotments
A spring wheat grower may obtain a 1960 acreage allotment by applying at the county ASC office by March 1. A new farm is defined as one with no wheat seeded for grain in 1957 1958 or 1959 and with no 1959 wheat allotment established. Chair man Schnepf notes past growers losing farms or new entrants may qualify for allotments.

State clinics for crippled children reach 35 Iowa towns
Field clinics of the State Services for Crippled Children will operate in 35 Iowa communities from March 1 to November 16 providing diagnostic and evaluation services for crippled youngsters. Plymouth county dates are March 8-10 in Sac City, May 24-25 in Spencer, July 7-28 in Cherokee, and September 9-12 in Storm Lake. one day clinics serve patients under 21 with chronic conditions.

Donald Offerdahl Recovers From Farm Burns
Friends of Donald Offerdahl of near Spink South Dakota report a steady recovery after severe burns from a farm accident on May 28 last year. He spent months in Akron Hospital and returned home just before Christmas for convalescence. A home talent play in Alcester Elk Point Akron raised 261.71, net 186.71 donated to Donald to help cover medical costs.

ASC Reserve Contracts To Become Effective April 15
Farmers in Plymouth County with soil bank conservation reserve contracts from 1960 were reminded that such contracts become effective no later than April 15, 1960. ASC chairman Wm. M. Schnepf explained that 1960 contracts auto start on April 15 unless the participant begins before that date to establish vegetative cover or other approved practice, which then becomes the contract’s effective date.

No Grazing Rule Tightens on Reserved Land Contracts
Chairman Schnepf said the contract becomes effective on April 15 and after that date the reserved land may not be grazed or harvested at any time during the contract life. He noted there are no grace periods for pasturing under both old and new contracts, and the no grazing rule applies to both new and old land on the farm without interruption.

Alcester farmer Herman Jacobs announced he will seek another term in the South Dakota state senate from district one serving Clay and Union counties on the Democratic ticket. He lives near Alcester and has a history in the 1959 session on several committees including assessment and taxation education public health welfare transportation and communications highway and chairs the apportionment committee.
