The secretary of agriculture calls for a study to map how money paid by city consumers for staples like eggs, potatoes, flour, and butter is distributed among growers, railways, merchants, and retailers. He notes meat retailers’ 38 percent gross profit and urges enforceable data collection to reveal who benefits most from rising prices. He also questions regulateability of wholesalers versus retailers while stressing usefulness of the inquiry.
Walter Hill and Rudolph J. Schiffmann of St Paul, sons of magnate James J Hill, were marooned in a tree on North Oaks farm after a wounded buffalo bull charged. They and two others fled city at 10 o clock to cull the herd of twenty. Hill and Schiffmann were rescued by neighbors on snowshoes, then joined in killing three more buffalo.

A Des Moines Capital reader argues Iowa’s bad roads drive residents away, citing a Kansas doctor’s letter praising Kansas and predicting a large homecoming if Iowa roads improve.
In Paarson's Weekly a groom Birkin jokes with his young brother in law about taking his sister far away after the wedding. The lad asks for reaction and Birkin replies with a wry, blank statement about enduring the distance. The exchange captures lighthearted family humor.
A brisk exchange features Witey and Hub at 1 A.M. with playful evasions over whereabouts and language, plus a frazzled principal probing French, as Johnnie quips about his father’s job and a London catchphrase. The fragment ends with a wry note on people fooling others.
