Mrs. Jessie Hathaway longtime Westfield resident dies

Mrs. Jessie Hathaway died early Saturday February 4 1938 at 2 Sioux City hospital after two weeks illness. Born Albany Wisconsin she married Joel Hathaway in 1892 and lived in Plymouth County most of her life. She joined Whitfield church in Sioux City and served as secretary of the Three Score club. Funeral in Westfield church Monday drew many friends. pallbearers were local youths. Interment followed.

Better halves at a card party and oyster stew at Melvin Johnson home

The Melvin Johnson residence hosted a Wednesday night card party with oyster stew. Mr. and Mrs. W. Smith won high prize while Mrs. A. Rozell and M. A. Kilstrom took low. The community extends sympathy to the Jos Voss family on his recent death. Mr. Voss, longtime neighbor, will be missed. Adolph Thiel and Ralph Leona Warren of Vermilion S D visited Frank Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mentzer welcomed a son.
