A week sees a four cent wheat price rise tied to the South African war and rising foreign demand. Akron plans a gymnasium or athletic club, to be named Akron Athletic Club, decided at a January meeting. Post office notes consider book form stamps of twelve 2 cent stamps for twenty five cents. Births reported: a daughter to Mr and Mrs Theo Vanderham on February 2 1900 and a son to Rev and Mrs G A McKinley on February 1 1900. A plan for a brick block to be built by Akron brick yards this spring on the Drs Clark Cilley and Chamberlin property. US post offices total 76388 per a recent statistics book.
Twenty five years ago two weddings were held at Catholic parishes with Rev D K Hurley officiating. A string of births followed in Milnerville and Spink and Canton beat Akron 30 to 23 as H G Clark resigns. Arthur Claeys to run the opera house as electrical wiring for the motion picture machine is completed.
Fifteen years ago a flu wave waned with few serious cases. News includes death of Elsie LeBree in Madison South Dakota from pneumonia on Feb 3 1920, weather, a garage change at Akron Buick, births at Willer and Tucker farms, a shed fire at Ed Lamoureux place January 29 1920 causing about 2500 dollars damage.
Dwight Nylund called on Dick Hamilton Wednesday morning. Lavon Vergine and Lois Heyl visited the Busch girls Tuesday. Carrol Hamilton and children visited Dick Hamilton Thursday evening. Farmers Union met at Eddie Lewison home with about thirty attending due to bad roads. Mrs Dick Hamilton spent days in Sioux City with her mother Martha Barington who has been ill. Mr Walter Heyl and daughters visited Ball Bros. Wednesday. William Skinner and Dick Hamilton visited Carol Hamilton Friday. Henry Busch and daughters Verla Verdga and Erma attended.
Harry and Julius Ball with Mr and Mrs Richard Ball and their sons Junior and Jimmie joined Mr and Mrs Lewis Jamptgard for a Sunday dinner at the Walter Heyl home, enjoying a cordial social visit.
Miss Verlan Sommervold married Marvid Stoen at Rosenichurch south of Beresford South Dakota in a 7 pm ceremony officiated by Rev. M O Ensberg. Attendants included Lillian Sommervold Judith Simpson Oswin Larson Marvin Sommervold. pipe organ by Mrs Newton Wevik. flower girl Beverly Jean Wevik. ring bearer Earl Ensberg. Music featured Lohengrin march and songs O Promise Me and At Dawning.
A lace veil bride Beverly Jean wore a gown and carried Talisman roses. Attendants in green silk crepe wore yellow tea roses. Earl wore navy trousers with white blouse. After the ceremony a reception for about fifty relatives followed at the bride’s home with a three course dinner and a decorated cake. The couple will reside on the groom’s mother’s farm nine miles south of Beresford.
