Cold weather kept us indoors and many were sick. January birthday Randy Kroksh treated the class. Students made potato prints, learned initials, and played the lolipop game using numbers. We practiced sets of seven and used initials for pictures when space was short.

Westfield faced West Lyon in Inwood on January 8 losing 44 to 49 with Den Martin scoring 20 and Peggy Ahrendt leading West Lyon with 34. January 15 saw a 80 to 67 Westfield win over Meriden Cleghorn. Dea Martin posted 44 while Pam Full led MC with 34. January 18 hosted Kingsley Pierson in a 64 to 58 win for Westfield with Den Martin scoring 36 and Jeanette Kurtz 34 for KP. Elsie Bernice Baker Dirks died January 26 1972 at Akron hospital after months of illness. Funeral held January 29 at Immanuel Lutheran Church Akron with Rev David Roy officiating. Burial Riverside Cemetery Schroeder Funeral Home in charge. Survived by husband J Fred Dirks two daughters Patricia Carlson Marian Schmidt two sons John Dirks Charles Dirks brother Harold Baker six grandchildren three great grandchildren and many relatives.
