Several local clubs held January meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday with times listed for Home Culture Club Loyal Neighbors Chicken Little PEO American Legion Auxiliary First Baptist WBMS St Johns Lutheran Promise Circle Rainbow and Mr and Mrs marking a busy week.

A year end column invites reader recipes and features two dip recipes and cocktail meatballs for holiday parties. The cocktails use ground beef with chili sauce and grape jelly, while Bean Dip blends soups, cheese and chili powder. Servings and calories are noted for the dips.

The Akron Golf Club hosts its annual New Year's Eve dance on Saturday December 31 for members and guests. Social hour 8 9 p.m. dancing 9 p.m. 1 a.m. with the Country Jesters and breakfast afterward. Ticket committee listed, decorating, and breakfast committees announced. Also includes wedding and property records excerpts from Akron area.
Renee Marie McLane, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil McLane Sr. of Akron, announces her engagement to Robert M. Eichinger. The couple plans a June 17 wedding at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Renee, a North High School graduate, works at Northwestern National Bank. Robert attends the University of South Dakota and works at Morey’s and Raymond’s in Sioux City.
Karen Brodie Andrew of Akron is among 2,033 undergraduates named to Iowa State University's dean's list for the fall quarter ending November 19. Honorees earned a 3.5 grade point average or higher and at least 15 graded credit hours. pass not pass courses did not count toward the hours.
Mr and Mrs Rick McPherson of Nausta Guam welcomed their first child a daughter named Teresa Lynn born December 20 1977 weighing seven pounds one ounce Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Lloyd Meyer Akron and Mr and Mrs Ray McPherson Hawarden Great grandparents include Mrs Jessie McPherson Hawarden Mrs Lena Weyen Chatsworth and Mr and Mrs Paul Larson Canton SD
A November 20 gathering at Lloyd and Mary Johnsons home reunited Garland schoolmates from the 1920s and earlier. About 45 alumni attended, sharing reminiscences, viewing old photos, and celebrating the couple who found love again after spousal loss. II

At the Klemme home Pastor and Mrs Orris and relatives from Norfolk, Sioux Falls, Akron area and Huron gathered for Christmas dinner. Navy recruit Bernard W Manley of Akron completed basic training at San Diego after an eight week cycle. Also visiting were Larry Jensen and family from Overland Park Kansas with Francis Hazel relatives and the Barwicks from Ontario and Akron area.
