Emily Davis reports a Christmas chalk drawing contest held by Freshman and Sophomore Algebra and Geometry classes. Each section chose artists from both classes to decorate the blackboard, with sections awarded prizes for best scenes.
In the Fifth and Sixth combination class the students describe four days left until Christmas vacation. They detail decorations, tree trimming, gifts, and a Christmas program and party plans. A new pupil, Alan Blake, joins from Aurelia as the group welcomes him to Akron.
A student piece laments fading school spirit at Akron Public School and urges revival with playful references and songlike lines about arousing pride. The poem uses pop culture and wordplay to contrast defeatism with revival, ending with a call to restore energy for fall activities.
The class wishes for Friday to arrive so they can open presents. Sue Gronemeyer is ill with the mumps but hopes to return for the party. Each student brought a decoration for the Christmas tree and most finished the reader New Friends and Neighbors. All wrapped their mothers' gifts and wish their moms like them. Wishing readers a Merry Christmas from the second graders.
Linda Larsen and Candy McConachie celebrated birthdays and brought tree decorations. Students drew names for Christmas gifts and eagerly anticipated the reveal. The second grade completed their first Reading book and began supplementary readings.
Sunday Mass scheduled at 8:00 on the 1st 3rd and 5th Sundays and 10:00 on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. Confessions held Saturdays at 4, 5, 7 and 8 before the 1st 8rd and 5th Sundays and at 4 before the 2nd and 4th Sundays.
