Akron Indies win and lose in two good games

The Akron Athletic Club defeated the Phi Sigma Psi fraternity basketball team 15 to 14 at M. 014 Byronasium, in Sioux City, last week. A late Akron rally produced the winning points and a one point margin as the crowd cheered a tight finish.

Judge Fuller Adjourns Plymouth County Court Session

Judge Fuller adjourned the Plymouth County court after two weeks and returned home for Christmas. Bradley, resident judge, will attend to pending matters before final adjournment of the November term. The next Plymouth County term will convene February 1, with C W Pitts presiding. divorce actions were filed, including Herbert Montgomery versus __________ for cruelty and Bertha Miller versus Otto B Miller for desertion. they married in LeMars and Idaho, with four children named Leona Living, Leane Otto and Stanley. the youngest is 15.

Sunday school closes quarter and next week’s service plan

Pioneer County Resident Dies in LeMars

Obituary notes the death of Mrs. G W Peck, 83, pioneer resident of Plymouth County, at her son in law and daughter's LeMars home after extended illness. Born May 19, 1848 in Cha teaugay County New York, she moved west with her parents, married George Peck in Monticello, Iowa, and lived in Sioux City Port landville Akron Clay and Plymouth counties before settling in LeMars. Funeral held Monday by Rev F Earl Burgess with interment in LeMars city cemetery.

Plymouth County Winter Show Set For Next Month

Plymouth County's annual winter festival in Le Mars runs January 21 to 24 featuring a Corn and Grain Show and a Poultry and Pet Stock Show. Organized by the Farm Bureau, Poultry Improvement Association, and LeMars Commercial Club, it offers 600 in cash prizes. Notables invited include Henry A. Wallace and Prof W H Lapp. Limited to Plymouth County in past, plans open junior corn judging to neighboring counties. a junior corn judging contest is added.

Morning Worship and Union Service at Local Church

Port, Akron Resident Sylvester Port Dies at 66

Sylvester Port a longtime Akron resident died Wednesday at his home after a brief illness of heart trouble. He was about 66, survived by his widow, several children, brothers and sisters. The family receives community sympathy during Christmastide.

Hawarden Loss: Mrs Frank Nolan Dies After Childbirth

Relatives and friends in Hawarden were shocked to learn that Mrs Frank Nolan of Hawarden died Sunday noon at Akron hospital after childbirth. She entered the hospital Thursday night and gave birth to a baby boy Friday morning. Despite a broad transfusion, she did not survive. The infant, healthy, was taken to Beresford with grandparents caring for him. Funeral services were held Monday at St Teresa’s church in Beresford.

Akron Cagers Split Double-Header With Sioux Center

Akron High School boys split a Friday double-header with Sioux Center. The second team won 21–20 after trailing at halftime 16–7, while the first teams battled. Sioux Center won the varsity game 28–13. Smith led Sioux Center with 16 points. McMahon and Johnson topped Akron with two field goals and a free throw each. The Akron lineup showed improvement, and a home game against the Akron Athletic Club is slated for Sunday January 2.

Embezzlement Report Highlights 1928 1929 1930 Loss

A state checkers report on James Sickler late clerk of the courts cites defalcations for 1928 1929 and 1930 totaling 14000 48 with 7225 from fines kept by the county and a 750 bond forfeited. The shortage largely stems from probate court fees and related items. Bonds cover the current and previous term. recovery steps will proceed. The Sickler case is set for February term court.

College students return home for holiday break

Local youths from multiple colleges head home for the winter holidays.
