The notice announces subscription rates for one year at 2 dollars six months at 1 dollar and three months at 60 cents for a publication issued every Thursday in Akron Iowa. It states the issue is entered at the Akron post office as second class mail matter on September 26 1901.
Mourn death of 15 month old twin Dwayne Hills died at home Saturday morning from broncho pneumonia. Funeral held Monday at Alam with burial at Brule Creek cemetery south of Alcester. Also notes marriages, visits, hospital stays, club events, and social news from Westfield and surrounding area including Elk Point and Hawarden.
Community groups hosted family Christmas dinners and card parties at several homes including the Philip Beaubien and Opal Hummel households. Prizes were awarded at progressive bridge, with Mrs. Gail Lilly and Mrs. Phyllis Smith among winners. A Christmas program was planned by church youth groups, schools close December 23 and reopen January 4, 1937.
Union Creek announces a Sunday school program on Saturday December 26 at 7 30 pm with public invitation. No services next Sunday. Annual church business meeting set for Monday January 4 at 1 pm. Luther League oyster supper at Luther Hall on New Year’s Eve with program following. Relatives attended Mrs Mary Larson’s 80th birthday in Sioux City at the Albertson home. Miss Rose Bennett birthday party at Eddie Anderson’s with a social afternoon and luncheon.
Kenneth Ludwig and Verla Busch were married at the German Lutheran church near Alcester with Rev. E C Beyer officiating. The couple are the children of Adolph Ludwig of Alcester and Henry Busch of Nora. Congratulations and best wishes were sent. Other items note social visits in Garland including Skinner at Hultgren home and Lewison gatherings plus Delbert Hamilton visiting grandparents.
Plymouth County Sheriff announces 1936 chauffeur licenses renewals at LeMars Iowa court house on December 7 14 21 and 28. No renewals after December 31 and any appeared after will require full examination. Renewals with intact stubs allowed if vision test passed and no physical impairment. Special Correspondent reports Mrs Jessie Hathaway visiting Milner with son in law Richard Milner before returning to the farm to care for Mrs Milner. Cyrus Knapp visits an old friend, Mrs Milner, for Christmas tree and entertainment. Marie Buys travels from Maquoketa to spend holidays with Abraham and Mrs Buys. Ella Kovaina marries Carl Frerichs in Chicago and will live there. The Carlin family marks 59 years of marriage with a Christmas dinner. Lawrence Mansfield competes in Golden Gloves in Chicago but falls short of a trip. Numerous local family gatherings, shopping trips, and Christmas events noted as towns celebrate season holidays.
Mr and Mrs Henry Pluegar and children visited John Tapper. Mrs Alfred Witt celebrated her birthday with a large evening crowd. Amos Hoeck and Mrs Barth Miller visited John Kallsen. A son was born to Abraham Miller on December 19 1936. T Irene Cassen birthday celebrated by relatives. Johnson family and Mrs White visited Texas relatives. Ruble school reports chickenpox absences. Alfred Witt daughters visited Mrs Schmidt near Craig. Eldon Kallsen and others helped Fred Klemme celebrate his birthday.
The American Foundation for Animal Health advocates farm by farm action to combat bot flies in horses. More than one million horses and colts have been treated in three years, with winter treatment using special capsules to eradicate bots. Only veterinarians should administer this treatment due to safety risks.
In most districts campaigns will be planned and carried out by local veterinarians in cooperation with farmers to support school programs.
