James Lund a well known Sioux Falls resident and large property owner died by self strangulation at a sanitarium on Saturday. The 53 year old had long suffered with an incurable mental disease and, likely aware he would not recover, chose to take his life by tying a handkerchief with a newspaper through it. He owned real estate and business property in Sioux Falls and farm land in Minnehaha County and had been a patient at the sanitarium for several months.
In Pierre Supreme Court an opinion by Justice Haney affirms the lower court in Charles Crouch et al versus Dakota Wyoming and Missouri River Railway Company from Pennington County. The decision clears the grade between Mystic and Rapid City and places Crouch and Cleveland interests in full control of the property after foreclosure proceedings.

Official canvass shows Roosevelt elector at 72,083 votes and Parker at 22,002 with a majority over 50,000. Total vote 101,485. Congress candidates: Martin 70,022 Burke 69,086 Lynch 22,044. Socialist 3,115 People’s 1,275 Prohibition 2,012. State officers and amendments canvass underway.
Judge Whiting grants a new trial in the state case against Frank L. Mentor of Tulare, convicted of embezzlement for allowing his brother to overdraw $5,000 as cashier of the Bank of Tulare. WW Mentor faces conspiracy charges and a preliminary exam has not yet occurred.
