Akron Portland Era Bridge Celebration Remembered

Mrs. Nancy M. Bonney submits a souvenir from Akron's early days when Portland or Portlandville was the town name. A ferry by Harvey D. Barr connected river banks before the new bridge, and the December 4 1908 anniversary marked a major local event. Only H D Barr and James Roas remain in Akron, with T S Martin later leading a Sioux City dry goods house and serving as Akron’s first postmaster.
