Akron area clubs and churches announce meetings and activities from late August to early September. Highlights include Chicken Little at 5:30 p m on Aug 26 and various circle meetings on Sept 2 and 3, plus a parish and extension group schedule and a Scout picnic at Akron city park with lunch and supplies provided.
Beginning Thursday, Sept 2, the Akron public library will be open every Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The change responds to patron demand for a once weekly evening access during the school year. New adult books listed include Sleeping Murder and Grass Is Always Greener On the Septic Tank among others. Engagement announced for Kathy Hoffman to Randy Solomon, wedding not set.
SOM Mr and Mrs Stan Bay and Teresa met Saturday night at Sioux City airport by Mr and Mrs Orvil Jurgenson after a week long trip to Disneyland and a sightseeing tour in California Mrs Bay won the vacation in a Won der Bread sponsored contest Mr and Mrs Steve Sparks of Prarie City Iowa spent the weekend at Mrs Sparks parents home Dr and Mrs Robert Garvin Mrs Sparks will teach English and drama in Newton High School this fall Mr Sparks works as information specialist with the Iowa Drug Abuse department Out of town visitors in the Sparks home included Mr and Mrs Ralph Sparks of Yucaipa California and Mr and Mrs Harold Jerrel Debbie Joe Amy and Noel of Miles City Montana Dr and Mrs Joe P Trotzig and daughter Karen recently returned from a vacation at their Lake Miltona summer home north of Alexandria Minnesota
Friends and neighbors held a housewarming at Mr. and Mrs. Albert Beeck’s home. Attendees included Eldean Swoyer and Matt, Elmer DeJager and family, Raymond Andresen, Clayton Welch, Donald Willer and others, with many spouses and children present in a warm community welcome.
Gregory Harris of Akron to receive floriculture diploma at Kirkwood Community College Cedar Rapids with U S senator John Culver as speaker. Akron and Moville residents visit and new baby Heath George born Aug 14 1976. ISU summer grads include Charles Evan Harris wildlife biology and Julie Ann Jacobs zoology with Akron ties.
Arnold Bremer of Akron completed the WIT real estate course and earned his salesman license. He will work as a salesman with Mitchell Realty in Akron.

Boni Johnson and Bill Markve united in marriage at Immanuel Lutheran Church Akron in a 5:30 p.m. ceremony. Rev. David J. Roy officiated as guests heard vows, with a double ring ceremony and elaborate floral decor. The couple will reside in Vermillion after a wedding trip to Pennsylvania. Boni is Akron native and SDSU graduate, Bill from Webster SD.
Lamaze classes begin the week of Sept 6 at 8 p.m. in St. Vincent hospital’s St. Gertrude’s hall and at St. Joseph Mercy hospital school of Maine auditorium. Couples must pre register, bring two pillows and a blanket, and may call Jan Schatz or Diana Jacobson for details. Fines in Plymouth county magistrate court include several traffic and curfew violations with amounts listed.
As summer ends, the Akron youth CRD program reflects on participant involvement and the positive impact of publicity in the newspaper. Terri Hyndman Lu Ann Rensink and Plymouth county extension youth aides express appreciation to the Akron CRD Champs and local leaders for helping youth and families. A separate note describes a potluck hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Don Harvey of Alcester for relatives visiting from Illinois and others from Hawarden Baltic Le Mars Marcus Akron Westfield El Paso and more. The gathering included photos and visiting.
Akron residents are urged to save energy by recycling newspapers. The Akron FFA chapter collects all city papers on the first and third Friday each month to support conservation efforts.
