About seventy five attended the annual St Catherine's church picnic with food and visits. Sisters Mary Andre Mary Conception Rose Therese and Father Schissel joined the gathering. Ice cream came from St Catherine's Guild. Overnight guests included Staff Sgt Bruce Honeyman and family from Glasco Montana and Mrs Mildred Morris from Butte Montana. Iris Mulfinger completed ten weeks in summer school at Morningside college. Welch reunion picnic reminder set for Sunday September 5 at Akron Legion Hall.
Sixty six residents attended the Plymouth County Old Settlers and Historical Society picnic in Westfield on Saturday August 14 with a program and business meeting. Speakers honored early residents and reflected on the county's character shaped by history. New officers were elected: Keith Knapp president Albert Peterson vice president Mrs Harry Nelson secretary treasurer. Westfield welcomed another year’s gathering and the group planned to meet again next year.
Old Age Assistance caseload fell by 72 from June while costs rose by 21 247. Nursing care costs rose 33 120 despite declines in medical services and drugs. State officials expect a 7 percent Social Security increase retroactive to January 1965 to reduce future OAA costs.
