President Montt of Chile Dies in London

Longtime Chilean leader Pedro Montt, who served as president from 1906 to 1911, died in London after arriving from New York aboard the Kaiser Wilhelm II. Death followed heart failure after angina. Montt helped steer Chile through frontier tensions with Argentina and supported a sound financial policy.

Soldiers Hit by Train Near Junction City

Le Blanc arrived at Issey near Paris at 6 45 am Wednesday winner of a cross country flight that began August 7. The race covered about 485 miles with a prize of 20009 offered by a Paris newspaper. Abrun followed about twenty minutes behind, landing at 7 05 am.

Eloper Caught and Shuman Hangs Self in Jail

Herman Shuman a 21 year old farmer living northwest of here eloped with his 16 year old niece Bessie Shuman after planning to marry. They were captured at Arnold's park and brought to Fonda where Shuman hanged himself with his belt in the city jail while awaiting the west bound train for Storm Lake and his trial.

To Rebuild Creamery at Monticello

The Topaz Creamery company of Oxford Junction, which bought the Diamond Creamery, plans to rebuild at Monticello. Labor is hard to secure, so work will start later. Lake Mills Girl Dies After Pitchfork Accident

Eva Everson nine year old daughter of Ole Everson of Lake Mills was sliding from a hay load when she struck a pitchfork stuck in the ground. The fork pierced eight inches into her bowels and she died soon after the injury.

Jones Model Is Completed For John Paul Jones Statue

New York sculptor Charles H Nichauls has completed a heroic bronze statue model for John Paul Jones funded by Congress with 50 000 dollars. The statue shows Jones at sea wielding a sword as he watches a naval engagement and will be unveiled next spring at Potomac Park Washington DC. Niehaus spent about two years on the work and based features on Houdon’s terra cotta bust in the National Academy of Design.
