Treasury Official Proposes Customs System Reform

Assistant Secretary Curtis told the House committee that consolidating customs offices would save 90 000 to 100 000 in salaries. Victim of Perjury 14 Lifer Dies in Fort Madison Prison

M B Fisher, a life prisoner at Fort Madison, died recently and is widely believed innocent of a first degree murder conviction. His 1877 death sentence for Emmett Reed’s murder was overturned, but a second trial produced perjury by a key witness who later faced conviction.
