A Gillespie Illinois pair, Pastor Luther A. Meyer and Mrs Meyer, announce they are letting their Akron rooted subscription lapse after years of reading the R T. They praise the town and its recent achievements while sending best wishes to former neighbors and editorials. Other local visitors and social notes follow detailing visits to Hawarden Omaha Sioux Falls Sioux City Ireton and Ireton area families and gatherings.

Simple oven cake method with apples and cinnamon describes mixing dry and wet ingredients separately then baking a 9 by 13 inch pan for 30 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees. A sugar milk butter heat and then pour over cake with optional cornstarch for thickening.

Mr and Mrs Fred R Claesson Jr visited last week at the home of their daughter in Webster City Iowa. Other visits included Mr and Mrs Herb Woudenberg and Mr and Mrs Paul Elliott of Lincoln Nebraska. The report notes visits to Onawa Mondamin Pisgah and Little Sioux and a trip to Sioux Falls to see Delbert Joustra in the veterans hospital. Linda Kay Walthart and Arlen Nannen announce an engagement with a September wedding planned. The Sioux Valley Extension club meets September 5 with mystery sisters to be revealed.
Mr and Mrs Willis Morse of Elk Point celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary with an open house at the Crystal Room J & D Junction Elk Point on Sunday August 31. Hosts include their three children Ralph Morse Janice Shaw Ken Kjer and spouses plus Alvina Larson and Willig Morse. They wed August 31 1940 in Ponca Nebraska and have seven grandchildren.
Roger Rozell aged 24 of Akron and Bobbie J. Burkett aged 18 of Sioux City were issued marriage licenses in Woodbury County.
Airman first class Larry M Hebert assigned to a U S Air Force security service unit at Osan Air Base Republic of Korea Hebert is the son of Mr and Mrs Paul Hebert of Alcester South Dakota Hebert a security policeman previously served at Ellsworth Air Force Base South Dakota and is a 1973 graduate of Alcester High School.
August events include West Port Farm Bureau Women at 2 p.m. on the 20th and First Baptist WEMS Naomi circle at 1 30 p.m. Sarah circle also at 1 30 p.m. Christian Women Fellowship meets August 21 at 2 p.m. Plus Immanuel Lutheran Bible study at 8 p.m. and Adaville United Methodist General meeting at 1 30 p.m. September brings Welch reunion at Akron Legion Hall and Gabel family reunion at Le Mars shelter. Senior Citizens meet September 1 at 1 30 p.m. Broasted chicken dinner set September 9 at Masonic Temple serving 5 p.m.

The Akron TOPS 893 club held a Wednesday meeting led by Sue Croy. Reports from secretary and treasurer were approved, with the adult top loser losing 34 pounds and the pre-teen top loser 4 pounds. Prizes and money were awarded to contest winners as forbidden foods were designated. An officers meeting followed. Judy Klemme, secretary.
The Akron CRD Challengers visited a local nursing home on Wednesday August 13 to bid farewell to their adopted grandparents. They then gathered at the city park for games and watermelon. A rally is planned August 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Le Mars.
Mr and Mrs John Tammen of Craig will mark their 45th anniversary with an open house at St John Lutheran church in Craig on Sunday from 2 to 4 30 pm. A 3 pm program is planned. Hosts include five children and their spouses from Illinois Iowa and Waterloo plus Nora Osterthun. They married Sept 10 1930 at St Matthew Lutheran Chatsworth. They have eleven grandchildren.
Akron's long dream of improved lighting is realized as the municipal power and light plant undergoes initial tests under Supt. J. E. McEligott and Fort Wayne contractor Mr. Fox. The first lights illuminate Weidenfeller market Jenkins store and the Register-Tribune office. By Tuesday council tentatively accepts the plant and regular service begins with tungsten lights on Reed Street. Additional buildings join as wiring expands, promising revenue.
Dr. Don Charles of Iowa State University will teach Psychology 230 Developmental Psychology in Denison, Tuesdays 6 30 to 10 00 p m for 11 meetings. First class Tuesday Sept 9 1975. Residents enjoyed a fruit auction game with play money, a park picnic, and a bingo session. August birthdays included Everett Campbell age 90 on August 15 and Herman Haage on August 16. Numerous relatives visited, with prayers, cake, coffee, sandwiches, and a wedding reception at Immanuel Lutheran church.
