H Dowdy plans move to Ed Nelson farm near Westfield. Congregational Ladies' Aid meets August 20 at 2:00 pm with hosts Mabel Lilly and Shirley Mansfield. Arlene Morehead leads devotions, Fatty Brown presents program on The United States and Canada as Neighbors. Several visits and trips noted, 4-H events, and advance tickets for Northern States Shows selling now. Local visits include Sioux City guests, Estes Park trip, and National Guard training in Minnesota. Crumbs from the Cake Pan highlights 4-H achievement day prep and Alcester fair August 11–13.

Seed Oat Choices and Alfalfa Advice for Plymouth County

Farmers are urged to beware of so called new oat varieties at fairs many are not new and may be inferior. Choose Putman or Newton for yellow dwarf resistance though still not new. Soil fertility and timely fall seeding of alfalfa with proper liming and phosphorus are key for durable stands. Eliminate nurse crops now. seed alfalfa and smooth brome between now and September 1 for best results.

Plymouth County Tuberculosis and Health Association with the County Medical Society State Dept of Health and Iowa Tuberculosis and Health Association bring an X Ray unit to Plymouth County from September 15 to 22 offering free chest X rays to adults 18 and over. IPS Protest Against Northern Natural Gas Rate Hikes

Iowa Public Service Company and 26 distributors filed a motion with the Federal Power Commission to reject Northern Natural Gas Company eighth rate increase and seek refunds on sixth and seventh increases. They argue due process delays and improper filing, warn customers face $25,304,000 yearly excess charges. Distributors including Des Moines Omaha Lincoln Minneapolis St Paul joined.
