Parish Picnic and Community Gatherings Across Westfield Area

St. Catherine's parish hosts a Sunday picnic on August 14 at 6:90 p.m. on the church lawn with guild funded coffee and ice cream. Iowa State Fair Attracts 4-H Members

The Iowa State Fair runs August 19 28 drawing Future Farmers of America members age high school students to work busy schedules. FFA volunteers groom cattle judge livestock earn prize money 250 dollars and showcase school projects while assisting in grandstand shows. Demonstrations in agricultural mechanics highlight farm machinery metal work wood work and tool conditioning with 9 am 6 30 pm hours. Participation includes six vocational agriculture districts displaying education in public high schools and entries in beef dairy sheep and swine. Awards total 9562 50 with swine a major portion.

Hall of Champions to House Premier Fair Stock Exhibits

The fair will stage premium classes with prizes for dairy and beef cattle, lambs, hogs, and vocational booths. Exhibits include champion dairy animal and beef heifer per breed, champion market lamb, and champion market hog pens. Two days before opening focus on stock bringing, exhibit setup, and hat marking machines.

Boxer deployed to the South China Sea delivering Marine helicopters to Vietnam and made port calls at Okinawa Yokosuka Japan and Hong Kong
