Condemned Man Junkin Dies Calm on Gallows in Iowa

Iowa file reports John Junkin, a black man, stood calm on the Fort Madison gallows at noon as the trap fell. He dictated a final prayer asking mercy, forgiveness from his mother, and from Clara Rosen’s family, then died. the execution followed by posthumous forgiveness from Fred Rosen. Isaac Marse, a self confessed escaped convict from Canon City Colorado, was identified in Oskaloosa and arrested at a boarding house. Marse admitted he was the wanted man and offered no resistance. A reward had been offered for his capture.

Woman Dies at 101 in Forest City Iowa

Mrs Anna Cole Clark a Forest City resident and one of north Iowa's oldest people died aged 101 at her home. She was married to the late George B Clark in 1830 and moved to Clayton county in 1856. After her husband died she lived in Nebraska before coming to Forest City in 1887. She remained mentally sharp until three months before her death from lagrippe. Her father lived to 104. She had twelve children seven of whom survived, all in Forest City except Isaac Clark of Omaha and Salem Clark of Billings Montana. She was a long-time Baptist Church member.

Death relics crowd at Burlington depot in coffin smashing
