Steamer Sirus Hits Shoal Drowning Seven In St Lawrence

Massena New York seven passengers drowned when the steamer Sirus struck a shoal eight miles below Massena capsized and threw 75 aboard into the water. Four bodies recovered include Hattie and Nellie Parker Ada Dewey and Floyd Hackett. Some passengers aided by companions reached the overturned hull as picnickers and motor boats joined to rescue many.

Editor mobbed by enraged women in Westville incident

Danville editor Frank H Guthneck of the Record was mobbed by women angered by references to them in the paper. After his spectacles were smashed he drew a revolver and fled to a friend’s home demanding sheriff protection. Guthneck’s daughter and her escort were briefly jailed for loitering as tensions rose with village officials.

State Creamery Dedicated in Albert Lea Minnesota
