Akron Ball Team Trips Yankton in South Dakota League

The Akron baseball team defeated Yankton 8 to 7 in a high scoring Thursday game. Letty Swift starred for Akron with strong pitching and hitting, while Yankton’s Fitzpatrick struggled at times. Key moments included March’s homer and Brown’s late solo shot as Akron edged ahead.

Akron Churchis Wedding Scene

Miss Joyce Erickson daughter of Mr and Mrs Edwin Erickson of Alcester South Dakota and Warren Griffith son of Mrs Etta Griffith of Treton Iowa were married Sunday afternoon August 8 1947 at 2 00 oclock in the Immanuel Lutheran Akron. Pastor David J Roy officiated ARden Boetger sang Always and I Love You Truly with Marilyn Nanninga at piano. The bridal party wore pink and blue chiffon and lace with bouquets of pink white blue and white flowers. Reception followed in the church parlors. The bride previously lived in Akron and the groom works at the Leader Courier in Elk Point.

Mayor and Mrs. Adams and son Charles plan a New York City trip to see John Philip Adams, Pan American Airways pilot. Downing Plumbing Co moved to a new metal quonset building near George’s Food Market. Emery Tucker hosted a July 27 birthday dinner for James Coleman of Buffalo New York, with family from Akron and Meckling. An outing at Prentis Park followed. Grant Barr learned of son-in-law George Murray’s July 20 death in Kenosha, Wisconsin, from injuries at a VFW convention. pneumonia caused death ten days later. Murray, a World War I veteran, leaves wife Leonide Barr and six children plus siblings.

Methodist Church Notes Vacation Sundays Postponed

The Methodist church announces a three Sunday vacation on August 10 17 and 24 with no Sunday school or worship until August 31. The Quarterly Conference will meet August 13 at the church with Rev. Late innng blast as Akron nines tops Schaller 9 to 3

Akron defeats Schaller 9 to 3 in a late inning rally at the local diamond. Billy Anoersen started for Akron and weathered an early threat, while Allen Tucker and Harold Peck contributed key plays. Huseman hit a homer for Schaller, but Akron pulled away in the seventh and eighth inning to secure its sixteenth win of the season.

Falling Board Injures Workman At Cement Elevator

Chas R Wrid 68 of Beresford South Dakota a carpenter for Warmers Co-Op cement plant suffered serious injuries when a 16 foot board blown from the roof by wind struck Frick thirty six feet below in a cement bin. He was rushed to Akron Hospital and showed improvement after critical condition. Mrs Prick and his sister traveled from Beresford to be at his side Wedmark of the city worked nearby but escaped injury.
