Annual Flower Show Set For August 15 At Local Church

The annual Flower Show will be held August 15 at the Methodist church parlors sponsored by the W. S. C. S. Entries must be in by 1 15 for judging. Classes include centerpieces, baskets, bouquets, fruit and veg, foliage, children’s entries, and a sweepstakes prize. Admission 25 cents. Also notes church schedule and a Miss Dorothy Gant visit to Sioux Falls.

Pretty wedding at St. John's Lutheran church Akron

Miss Helen Erickson and Paul B Milbrodt married at St. John's Lutheran northeast of Akron on Wednesday evening August 1. Rev. Beckmann officiated with a double ring ceremony as organist Mrs Beckmann played. Bridesmaid Mary Milbrodt wore blue and groom’s sister attended. The couple will reside in Kingsville Texas where the groom serves in the U S Navy.

LeMars Church Wedding Becomes Bright Summer Event

The First Methodist church in Le Mars hosted a pretty summer wedding on Sunday night July 29 1951 with Miss Doris Bowers marrying Donald Campbell of Akron in a candlelit ceremony. The bride daughter of Mr and Mrs George R Bowers wore a white slipper satin gown and carried calla lilies, with attendants in aqua and orchid. The groom is a student at Iowa State college set to graduate next year. After a week long honeymoon in the Black Hills they will reside in Akron then return to Ames.

Red Cross Seeks funds for flood relief in Kansas and Missouri

Plymouth county Red Cross launches a special drive for emergency relief to aid flood victims in Kansas Missouri and surrounding states. Mrs Ethel Hart says thousands displaced need shelter food and repairs while President Truman urges nationwide gifts. A Plymouth quota of 1800 is set with donations mailed or delivered to LeMars Red Cross office.

Akron Holds Drive to Fund New Hospital August Dates

Akron community launches Sept 2 to 14 campaign to pay off indebtedness on the new Akron Community Hospital. Leaders compare the hospital to a sick baby and urge widespread solicitations across Akron and at least two surrounding townships. Akron Red Caps Down Hawarden in Opening Tilt

The Akron Red Caps defeated Hawarden 8 to 6 in the season opener played at Hawarden Sunday evening. Key moments include Cotton Hartman homer in the first inning and a three-run fourth. Pitchers included Hugh Swift for Akron and Gerdes for Hawarden. Virgil Morehead and Cotton Hartman later pitched for Akron.

Plymouth County Pioneer Dies

Frank Gabel aged 72 lifelong Plymouth County resident died Sunday July 29 at a daughter's home after a brief illness. Born November 3 1877 in Sac county Iowa he married Mary Taylor March 14 1906 at LeMars. Survived by wife four daughters a son three sisters two brothers and fourteen grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at Adaville Evangelical United Brethren church with burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Akron Soldier Returns From Fighting in Korea

Cpl Eldon Molzen arrived home Friday after eight months in Korea with the 39th Field Artillery, 8th Division, the first local serviceman to return from the area. His unit saw heavy combat near the Manchurian border before being pushed back and later regaining some ground. Molzen received an honorable discharge but remains on the reserve list.
