The annual Flower Show will be held August 15 at the Methodist church parlors sponsored by the W. S. C. S. Entries must be in by 1 15 for judging. Classes include centerpieces, baskets, bouquets, fruit and veg, foliage, children’s entries, and a sweepstakes prize. Admission 25 cents. Also notes church schedule and a Miss Dorothy Gant visit to Sioux Falls.
Miss Helen Erickson and Paul B Milbrodt married at St. John's Lutheran northeast of Akron on Wednesday evening August 1. Rev. Beckmann officiated with a double ring ceremony as organist Mrs Beckmann played. Bridesmaid Mary Milbrodt wore blue and groom’s sister attended. The couple will reside in Kingsville Texas where the groom serves in the U S Navy.
Trinity Lutheran lists no services on Trinity Sunday and invites attendance at Mission Festival Services at St Matthew Chatsworth with programs for Sunday school Bible class Children’s Day and an afternoon service. Youth project to build a mission in Burnaby BC in 1951. Ladies Aid meets Thursday August 9. Ice cream social at Warnsing building Saturday. Holy Communion August 12 at 10:30. Dinner noon. Guest speaker Rev Fruehling Grant Township. Special Mission Advance offering.
The Westfield Congregation will not hold Worship Service or Sunday School during August. Services resume September 2 as usual. Reverend Q. F. Elbe, Minister.
Mrs. C R Porter and son Rollin visit in Akron. Sioux Valley Extension Club plans a picnic August 5 at Akron City Park. Lake View Extension Club meets August 3 at Mrs. James Mansfield’s home. Engage ment announced for Eleanore Mae Winquist to Robert B E Lewis. wedding August 15 in Akron. Marian Schoonover marries Kenneth A Zierath in July ceremony at Hope Lutheran South Sioux City. Rural Letter Carriers’ Association gathering honors Frank E Burke and guests at LeMars Country Club. Burnight and son Robert return from London Ontario trip to discuss scientific topics. Robert, physicist with the U S Naval Research Laboratory, vacationing with family.
The First Methodist church in Le Mars hosted a pretty summer wedding on Sunday night July 29 1951 with Miss Doris Bowers marrying Donald Campbell of Akron in a candlelit ceremony. The bride daughter of Mr and Mrs George R Bowers wore a white slipper satin gown and carried calla lilies, with attendants in aqua and orchid. The groom is a student at Iowa State college set to graduate next year. After a week long honeymoon in the Black Hills they will reside in Akron then return to Ames.
Patrons at the Norka Theater will see a gangster film and a western on August 3 and 4, a comedy drama and a musical on August 6, and a musical revue on August 8 and 9. Features include Blonde Dynamite with Leo Garcey and The Bowery Boys, Rustlers Ransom, Good Bye My Fancy with Joan Crawford, and Hit Parade of 1951 with John Carroll and Estellta Rodriguez.
Herman Grunitagle of Mapleton visits relatives this week. Many locals host guests from Sioux Falls Minneapolis and Davenport. Engagement announced for Marcella Gale to Roy Pick. Friends and relatives from New Richland Sheldon Newport and Rockford visit or travel for family events and upcoming autumn wedding.
Plymouth county Red Cross launches a special drive for emergency relief to aid flood victims in Kansas Missouri and surrounding states. Mrs Ethel Hart says thousands displaced need shelter food and repairs while President Truman urges nationwide gifts. A Plymouth quota of 1800 is set with donations mailed or delivered to LeMars Red Cross office.
Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church led by Pastor David J. Roy hosts morning services at 8:30 and 11:20 with Sunday school and Bible class at 1. Union Creek Lutheran Church with the same pastor offers morning worship at 9:55 and Bible class at 11:00. Luther League meets Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in church parlors. Ladies Aid activities include Thursday chores with Mrs. Raymond Ericson as chairwoman.
The Methodist Church reports two Sunday services for the summer. The 8:00 a.m. service occurs at this church while the 11:00 a.m. union service will be held at the Baptist church with Rev. H Myron Braun presiding. Methodist Youth Fellowship picnic at Stone Park follows.
Akron community launches Sept 2 to 14 campaign to pay off indebtedness on the new Akron Community Hospital. Leaders compare the hospital to a sick baby and urge widespread solicitations across Akron and at least two surrounding townships. A public pamphlet with financial details will be distributed before the drive.

Mrs. Arnold Kiemme and Mrs. Minnie Johnson visit relatives in Hawarden and Moneta. polio case in county. Pfc. LaVerne Baldwin returns from Munich and is at Camp Atterbury. Darrell Parker enlisted in the Navy. Ray Switzer visits Akron and discusses Sioux City market reports broadcast on radio.
The Akron Red Caps defeated Hawarden 8 to 6 in the season opener played at Hawarden Sunday evening. Key moments include Cotton Hartman homer in the first inning and a three-run fourth. Pitchers included Hugh Swift for Akron and Gerdes for Hawarden. Virgil Morehead and Cotton Hartman later pitched for Akron.
Frank Gabel aged 72 lifelong Plymouth County resident died Sunday July 29 at a daughter's home after a brief illness. Born November 3 1877 in Sac county Iowa he married Mary Taylor March 14 1906 at LeMars. Survived by wife four daughters a son three sisters two brothers and fourteen grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at Adaville Evangelical United Brethren church with burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Cpl Eldon Molzen arrived home Friday after eight months in Korea with the 39th Field Artillery, 8th Division, the first local serviceman to return from the area. His unit saw heavy combat near the Manchurian border before being pushed back and later regaining some ground. Molzen received an honorable discharge but remains on the reserve list.
