Governor Clarke May Push Fall Special Session

State Examiners Appointed to Oversee Public Finances

Senate passes House bill creating the state examiners office under which the state auditor will appoint from two to six examiners within thirty days. They will annually audit county offices funds, review first cost prices, and report findings, with subpoena power. Des Moines reports railroad interests worry over the Keokuk Des Moines line. Financial trouble and no dividends for years cited. The Farmers State Bank of Fairbank failed to open for business Monday and a bank examiner was called to straighten affairs. It had lent $50,000 to Karl Kiefer, vice president of Kiefer Savings Bank at Hazelton, whose bank recently closed after an audit. The Fairbank bank, with $30,000 capital and $129,000 in deposits, was led by President J. Shoenut, Vice-President P. Fy, and Cashier G. F. Monroe.
