Plymouth County Tax Contracts Put Under Scrutiny

A petition filed in district court challenges three contracts between Plymouth County officials and LB Crowley for property discovery and tax collection. The plaintiff, a Plymouth County resident and taxpayer, seeks an injunction to halt payments and warrants, arguing the agreements exceed legal authority and were made by a majority of officials no longer in office. Former Adaville Farmer Summoned for Death at LeMars

Morehead 66, longtime Plymouth County resident, died Saturday morning April 2 1938 at his LeMars home after illness. Born Illinois May 20 1871, he farmed in Adaville area before settling in LeMars. Survived by wife Ida, daughters Irene Nill and Reuben Hines, three sons Marion Woodsok, and others, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services Tuesday at Presbyterian Church LeMars. interment at city cemetery. Relatives attended from Reliance Burke Chokio and LeMars.

Record-setting Westfield assessor L F Taylor retirement noted

L F Taylor completed his forty sixth Plymouth county assessment and turned in his books at LeMars last week. He arrived in Plymouth county 51 years ago, bought land in Westfield township, built a farming operation now totaling 480 acres with three sons helping. The family produced 8,000 bushels of corn last year despite adverse conditions. Taylor rarely campaigns, has faced little opposition in 46 years, and has even traveled to California and Canada, returning convinced Plymouth County remains a good home.

Willing Toilers 4-H News April Activities

The Willing Toilers 4-H club reports in April events with meetings on April 2 and April 16 at local homes, a bake sale on April 9 at Weidenfeller's Market, and a County 4-H Party planned for April 23 at LeMara. April Blizzard Tears Through Midwest Shrugs Off Parts of North East

A heavy wet spring storm battered the Dakotas Minnesota Iowa and Illinois with inches of snow and blizzard-like winds. Cities reported record April snowfall in Chicago while Chamberlain noted seventeen inches. Auto Crash Escapes Injury In Snow

Dr. Geo. Mattison of this city and Warren Kinquist of Sioux City collided head on on Highway 6 near Akron golf links in a snow swirl. Slippery roads kept speeds moderate as they failed to see each other until too late. Both fronts damaged. towed to Dirks Bros. Mattison escaped unhurt but passenger Harry Hubbs was cut and bruised. Kinquist also uninjured apart from a knee push. Cloyd Gabel near town operated on for ruptured spasm at Akron Hospital this week.
