City approves proactive plan for aging Aiken infrastructure
Aiken City Council approved an asset management plan using InfoMaster Suite software for 68 000 to map 376 miles water lines 277 miles sanitary sewer lines and 121 miles storm sewer lines. The vote also funded curb repainting downtown with 70 000 and 35 000 for storm water work between Whiskey Road and Fabian Drive. Barbara Nelson SPCA Albrecht Center said the new contract increases daily animal care spend to 2 per animal for spaying neutering ear-tipping and rabies vaccines.

North Augusta residents fear water park could wash away neighborhood
North Augusta resident John Burke filed a 2013 lawsuit against the South Carolina Department of Transportation and Aiken County over water runoff from Palmetto Parkway and a proposed Seattle's Island water park. Burke says driveways flooded and trash and silt entered his yard on multiple occasions. He warns the new development at Exit 5 could worsen damage. SCDOT declined comment pending litigation.
