Richard Ridgell 52 a Mary land State Police veteran turned private security guard at the Washington Navy Yard died at his lobby post while subduing a shotgun wielding intruder. Mourners described him as a devoted father and strict security adherent during a Severn memorial service for victims of the Sept. 16 shooting at NAVSEA headquarters.

Police say a long estrangement ended in violence when Josephine and Jeffrey Ruckinger allegedly planned to murder the Frew family at their Ashville home.
