Senator Hubert H. Humphrey of Minnesota will be hospitalized this weekend for tests and possible surgery on a bladder condition, his office announced yesterday.
J Martin Posey was reinstated by the Aiken County election commission as a petition candidate for Clerk of Court after a hearing in the county courthouse. The panel found Posey had eight signatures over the required amount, despite earlier disqualification for short by six. The reinstatement could be protested by incumbent Clerk Mrs Frank Roe Jr. Posey’s attorney claimed some signatures labeled inactive voters were valid. Petitions examiner Mrs Roger Payne said signature checks are complex and noted a timing issue in rechecking.
William and Emily Harris, alleged SLA members, indicted for the Feb 4 1974 kidnapping of Patricia Hearst from her Berkeley apartment. Alameda County Grand Jury returned the indictment as Hearst seeks a new trial for an armed bank robbery sentence of seven years. The charges carry a maximum penalty of life without parole.
Congress moves to override President Ford's veto and extend the revenue-sharing program. The key vote hinges on the revenue-sharing bill, as Ford indicated he will sign or veto two jobs bills only after Congress acts. The House considers a $56.6 billion HEW and Labor appropriation, which Ford calls inflationary.
Syrian troops and tanks drove Palestinian guerrillas and their leftist allies from a 20 square mile salient east of Beirut during Lebanon's civil war.
