Aiken County issued building permits for ten new homes in the last two weeks of September. Applicants include W A Price for a 15 thousand dollar house in Kalmia Forest Lot 5A, Thomas Mixon for 29.9k on Outing Club Road, Harold Hamrick for 12.5k on Pine Hill Lot 9, and others at Gem Lakes Pineview Extension Wagener and surrounding areas. A 35k facility for Busbee Hardware and an 80k Chrysler Plymouth site on the Aiken Augusta Highway are also listed.
A toxic algae bloom led to shellfish bans across five New England states with Nixon declaring the Northeast a disaster area. Prices for shellfish and safe species plummeted while fishermen and merchants report sharp revenue losses.
